According to a recent study by The Pew Charitable Trusts, Nevada received a "C-" for its workforce. The study found that the applicant pool was thin, especially around Las Vegas, and that the state struggled to fill high-level information technology specialists. In addition, given the inherent risks from an economy dependent on legalized gambling and prostitution, what stays in Vegas should definitely not be your business' IT systems.

From a network connectivity perspective, Las Vegas does not have the same level of diversity or access compared to cities like Phoenix or Denver. For businesses that require highly redundant and robust connectivity, Las Vegas does not hold all the cards.

Las Vegas receives most of its energy from non-renewable, fossil-fuel sources including coal and gas. Price volatility is high and the cost of electricity in Las Vegas puts it in the stratosphere with California, which has the highest electricity prices in the Western United States. At $.11 per kilowatt hour and rising, businesses that require access to a reliable source of power should look elsewhere.

Las Vegas is great for entertainment, not for colocation.
